In more detail

Here, you don’t just hope to catch sight of wildlife, you’re expertly placed for an almost-guaranteed chance. Reminiscent of 19th century pioneering explorers, the luxury camp packs up three times yearly, travelling across the Seregenti plains to fresh grasses for the annual wildebeest migration and calving cycle. Kichakani translates in Swahili as ‘in the bush', and the canvas construction of the tents and their mobility amount to a very minimal environmental impact. Don't be misled, though – this retreat goes way above a basic bushcamp. Four poster drape-encircled beds and luxury fabrics lie alongside a private wooden deck and en-suite bathrooms, with campaign furnishings, African touches and classic bucket showers – kept warm by your personal attendant – providing a setting that's evocative of the golden age of safaris.

Of course the true allure lies outside in the Serengeti plains, explored with game drives – though don't be surprised if you spot a giraffe or two nibbling on an acacia tree above your private deck. Spot impala, wild dog, hyena and of course, the revered Big Five, viewed from sprawling savannahs, rocky kopjes and open grasslands. It’s the wildebeest and accompanying zebras that steal the show, though, along with their shrewd lion and cheetah predators.

Culminate days with fresh signature cocktails and canapés in the grand central canopied area to recharge, where plush sofas and dark grey furnishings overlook an emblematic African sunset. Discuss the day's sightings with your knowledgable guides around a crackling fire across panoramic landscape views, before a supper including classic flavours such as kachumbari (traditional Tanzanian salsa) and coconut beans, created by the onsite chef.
