This magnificent itinerary pairs the elegance of a journey on Rovos Rail with a luxury cruise among South Africa and Namibia's finest landscapes. Travelling from Pretoria to Cape Town, Rovos Rail offers the chance to uncover the very best Southern Africa has to offer, and you'll uncover ancient mining cities, preserved villages and the myriad delights of Cape Town with included off-train tours, all the while indulging in gourmet dining paired with excellent South Africa wines. Begin your holiday in style with an included chauffeured drive to the airport and VIP airport lounge access before boarding your overnight flight to Johannesburg, arriving on day two. Upon arrival, you'll be met and taken on an included tour of Pretoria, pausing at such icons as the Voortrekker Monument, Paul Kruger House and Nelson Mandela statue. Enjoy a leisurely brunch before an included transfer whisks you to your luxury hotel for your overnight stay at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria, where you've got the rest of the evening at leisure to explore.

Day 3

Embark Rovos Rail

After breakfast your South Africa journey begins proper as you board at the Rovos Rail train station. Settle in to your wood-panelled suite as you speed away from Pretoria to begin your journey to Cape Town through the grasslands of the Highveld and Great Karoo. A walk through the train reveals elegant lounge and dining cars staffed by the attentive Rovos team, ready and waiting to pour you a glass of South African wine or bring you a cup of hot coffee. Throughout your journey, you’ll have plenty of chances to relax in these spaces, surrounded by plush furnishings and classic décor as the African countryside passes you by. Trundle past spectacular mountain ranges and scenic vineyards before the first of your gourmet, multi-course dinners tonight among the red-and-gold finery of the dining carriage, complemented by a selection of the finest South African wines, of course. Finish the evening in the stylish lounge and be transported to a bygone era as you mingle with other guests before returning to your cabin.

Day 4

Rovos Rail: Kimberley's diamond-rush history

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you watch the scenery from your window before stopping at Kimberley, known for its diamond-mining past. Head on a guided tour of the Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole – a giant pit that claims to be the largest hole excavated by hand. After soaking up Kimberley's unique Victorian heritage and glittering gemstone history, you'll return to the train for afternoon tea as you glide past flocks of flamingos basking in the sun. Tonight, enjoy another delicious dinner in the opulent restaurant car before retiring to your cabin for a final night's rest.

Day 5

Arrive in to Cape Town

After breakfast, step off to visit the historic, preserved village of Matjiesfontein with its fascinating museum and white-washed Victorian era houses. It's then time for the final leg of the journey as you speed past rolling vineyards, wild Karoo and tiny villages to arrive in Cape Town. On arrival, a private transfer will see you to your luxury waterfront accommodation, Cape Grace. Situated on a private quay between the buzzing V&A Waterfront and the tranquil yacht marina, you'll be ideally situated to enjoy all that Cape Town has to offer. Perhaps sample the hotel's lower-sea-level Bascule Bar, where you can try over 500 whiskies and fine wines, before sampling its seasonal menu of innovative Cape cuisine at the Signal Restaurant, along with one of the best afternoon teas in Cape Town. Other hotel facilities include an indulgent African-influenced spa and 56-foot private yacht, perfect for sunset cruises.

Day 6

Explore the Mother City

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for an included tour of Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. Highlights include Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak, Noordhoek beach, the Cape Point Nature Reserve, Boulders Penguin Colony, the colourful old fishing boats at Kalk Bay and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. This afternoon, perhaps wander through Greenmarket Square's famous flea market before sampling some of Cape Town's famous, ultra-fresh seafood.

Day 7

Embark Seven Seas Voyager

Enjoy breakfast and a morning at leisure before transferring to the Seven Seas Voyager ready for your voyage through southern Africa. Settle in to your luxuriously-appointed and butler-served suite then, this evening, it's time for the first of your gourmet, three-course, sommelier-matched dinners. There's everything from modern French fare at Chartreuse – think tender veal rack of loin with grape chutney – to filet mignon and côte de boeuf at steakhouse Prime 7 on offer. Then, head to one of the many opulent bars for a post-dinner digestif – an apt toast to the start of your adventure.

At sea

After breakfast you've got a full day to explore the ship and all it has to offer. Perhaps spend the day on the sprawling pool deck with a frozen cocktail or two before an al fresco lunch at the Pool Grill for grilled-to-order burgers, seafood and crisp salads. Alternatively, the fitness centre, paddle tennis court, jogging track and putting green ensure any eager sportsperson is well catered for. This evening, head to one of the other elegant dining venues for dinner before ending the night at the glamorous casino.

Unspoiled beauty in Namibia

Anchor in to Namibia's Walvis Bay today for two days of exploring. All excursions can be arranged directly from the ship up to a year before your cruise, and there's everything from off-road explorations to fly-over dolphin and whale watching on offer. We'd highly recommend a dolphin and seal cruise on the Walvis Bay Lagoon as well as a 4x4 off-road trip across the orange Namib Desert's undulating sand dunes, filled with desert-adapted species like leopard, cheetah, springbok and zebra.

At sea

Spot the Big Five at a private game reserve

Anchor in to Port Elizabeth today, whose sandy beaches are the gateway to game fishing, surfing and whale watching. Head to the Addo Elephant Park for a fascinating look at unique Addo elephants on a 4x4 off road game drive, or spot the Big Five with at one of four different game reserves on 4x4 safari drives, including unique species like the white lion at the Pumba Private Game Reserve. Alternatively, make like a local and tour a local farm or townships for an insight into the historic culture of Port Elizabeth. At every port, you can also opt for an executive car or van hire with a private guide for more in-depth, personalised exploration.

Durban's markets, beaches & wildlife wonders

Anchor in to Durban today for two days of exploring South Africa's third largest city's lively nightlife and and cultural scene, with an Indian influence meaning myriad authentic curry houses and spice markets. Explore with a city tour that stops at Old Market Square, the Golden Mile beachfront and Gray Street Mosque, the largest in the southern hemisphere, or explore what's known as 'Little India' in Durban’s oldest spice market and tour the community where Mahatma Ghandi lived. Then, on your second day, head to the Tala Private Game Reserve for an open-air game drive to spot giraffe, rhino, hippos, buffalo, kudu, the elusive sable antelope and more than 300 bird species.

Rich history & European charm in Mozambique's Maputo

Anchor in to Maputo today, home to European-style boulevards and colonial palaces mixed in with modern high rises. Highlights include visiting the local market with walking city tours where you'll learn more about the civil war that only ended in 1992, as well as the train station which was built in 1910 by Gustav Eiffel, architect of the Eiffel Tower.

Zulu culture & UNESCO gems in Richards Bay

Sail to Richards Bay today, the gateway to Zululand, spectacular wetland landscapes and pristine beaches. Spend your first day exploring with Shakaland tours to local villages to get an insight into Zulu culture before heading to the UNESCO-listed iSimangaliso Wetland Park or Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park to spot elephants, giraffe, lions, buffalo and the rare white rhino.

Your final day sees you explore Mossel Bay, a highlight of South Africa's famous Garden Route. Discover the region with a coach tour, pausing at the 500-year-old National Monument tree and Maritime Museum, or travel along the picturesque Garden Route to pause at Mossel Bay's 37 miles of beaches, ancient forests and mountains before exploring upmarket Knysna's boutiques and seafood eateries.
