This thrilling journey in the heart of Swedish Lapland is a luxurious take on a classic Arctic adventure, combining a cosseting stay in a private log cabin with a night to remember at one of Scandinavia's most iconic hotels. It all begins at Jukkasjärvi's iconic ICEHOTEL, with a night in a spectacularly carved Deluxe Suite, which comes complete with heated en-suite bathroom and a private sauna. Then, after making the most of the hotel's famed culinary delights, it's time to head on, via a husky-sled transfer, to Fjellborg Arctic Lodge. Hidden away in a remote forest, it's the ideal setting for wintry days spent snowmobiling through silent fir forests and soaking in your private hot tub.

Day 1

UK to ICEHOTEL

Board your flight to Kiruna, via Stockholm. Naturally, you'll be met on arrival for the short but scenic transfer to ICEHOTEL. Marvel at the extravagance of the place, encompassed in an ICEBAR, gallery and even a chapel, before enjoying a guided tour of the individually themed rooms. On arrival, check into your Deluxe Art Suite and enjoy a complimentary bottle of champagne. You'll even have use of your own private heated bathroom and relaxation area, the perfect contrast to your room's Arctic chill.

Tonight, we suggest either the five-course ICE menu at the ICEHOTEL's signature restaurant or, if you feel like splashing out, a 12-course ‘Chef’s Table’ dinner on The Veranda – expect the likes of salmon on ice and topside of reindeer, which can be paired with exquisite wines. It's then time for your night on ice, armed with cosy Arctic sleeping bags and reindeer hides to keep you toasty until morning.

Day 2

Fjellborg Arctic Lodge

After waking to a glass of hot lingonberry juice and a hearty breakfast, take some time to enjoy your surroundings before meeting your hosts from the Fjellborg Arctic Lodge. Your adventure begins with a transfer to the nearby Fjellborg Homestead, where you'll change into your Arctic clothing and meet your friendly four legged friends for this afternoon's husky excursions. This is, rather delightfully, one of the only ways to reach your destination (the other being snowmobile or helicopter). Mush your own group or simply marvel at the snowy landscape, the silence only disturbed by the dogs' rhythmic patter.

As you reach Fjellborg's pine-clad buildings, catch sight of your deluxe cabin, of which you'll have private use for the next three nights. A Scandi-chic aesthetic dominates, all blonde-wood walls adorned with antique skis and bear hides, with snug beds strewn in furs. It's a wonderfully cosy setting for a private dinner. Or, head to the main lodge, with its wood-panelled walls and candlelight atmosphere before enjoying a relaxing session while looking out across frozen Lake Väkkärä.

Days 3 – 4

Fjellborg Arctic Lodge

The next few days will be spent exploring the frozen wilderness that lies right on your doorstep. Begin with a snowmobile excursion, roaring through the blanketed tundra, before enjoying a traditional Lappish fireside lunch deep in the forest. Then, head out onto the frozen expanse for an ice fishing expedition, armed with reindeer hides and a drill to hammer into the thick blue sheet around you, accompanied by a wilderness guide.

A gentle snowshoe hike through the white stalagmite-like firs finishes things off tranquilly. It’s all a wonderful prelude to a soak in your private outdoor hot tub, perhaps accompanied by a glass of champagne or two as you watch the star-spangled sky interspersed with – luck depending – the Northern Lights.

About the itinerary

"This itinerary combines two of Sweden's most luxe properties. The Fjellborg Arctic Lodge is truly special, with its cosy wooden interior, private sauna and hot tub. It's the perfect base to explore the snowy landscape surrounds with husky sledding and snowmobiling. I've paired it with a deluxe, en-suite room at the ICEHOTEL, which together make for a spectacular, memorable trip. The icing on the cake comes when, with luck, the Northern Lights appear – an experience that's more than likely in the clear, dark skies of Swedish Lapland."
