While it’s rightly known for its classic overnight sweep between London and Venice, an ever-expanding network of routes is bringing the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express’ timeless elegance and 1920s glamour to even more of Europe’s city greats. Up until now, however, there was no journey that incorporated stops in three cities. And, that’s where this new itinerary comes into its own, as you fly out first to Venice where a luxury stay will see you explore the city’s winding canal’s and Renaissance and gothic masterpieces. You’ll then step aboard those iconic blue-and-gold carriages to journey in unmatched style across Italy’s rural north and Austria’s alpine idyll, arriving into Paris the next day where you’ll disembark for a full day of sightseeing and a wine-paired lunch at the Eiffel Tower. Your journey continues as you rejoin the train for an overnight race to Berlin, arriving the following evening, before you round things off with a five-star hotel stay and an expert-led tour of the German capital’s iconic attractions. It’s also worth noting that the itinerary can be done in reverse. Speak to our specialists for details.
Start your holiday in style with a chauffeur transfer to the airport and included VIP lounge access before your flight to Venice. On arrival, you’ll transfer, by water taxi of course, to your canal-side hotel, the elegant Baglioni Hotel Luna. Housed in a Venetian palace, this luxurious offering features silk-panelled walls and frescoes by the pupils of Tiepolo. Rooms house gilded furnishings and original Murano chandeliers, and some even host views over the Venetian Lagoon, St. Mark’s Square and the Royal Gardens. With a full day free, you’ll have ample time to take in all these sights and more; there’s everything from lazing gondola rides to gallery visits and cruises out to the idyllic islands of Murano and Burano. Alternatively, you might prefer to explore Hemingway’s old haunts with a Bellini at the Hotel Metropole, or simply wander between secret squares and hidden alleyways seeking out the finest gelato.
This morning, a water taxi transfer will whisk you to Venice’s Santa Lucia station to board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Stepping onto the iconic gold-and-blue carriages, you’ll be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and a three-course gourmet lunch in the restaurant car as you race through the verdant landscapes of Northern Italy towards Austria, crossing into its spectacular Alpine setting via the heights of the Brenner Pass; it’s a journey to savour, framed as it is by the snow-capped peaks of Europe’s central ranges. You’ll then head into Switzerland via the Arlberg Pass as a delicious selection of pastries are served in the oak-panelled fineries of your private cabin or Grand Suite. Then, as darkness descends, you’ll return to the dining car for a sumptuous four-course dinner followed by drinks in the bar car, all accompanied by the twinkling ivories of the train’s resident pianist.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
Having travelled through the night, you’ll wake to a continental breakfast, again served in your cabin. Then, as you arrive into Paris, you’ll make your way to the Holiday Inn Gare de l’Est where a day room will afford the chance to freshen up and leave your luggage before your day in the French capital. Spend a free morning taking in the sights, followed by a included visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower and gourmet lunch at its 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant. Expect the likes of creamy chestnut soup, trout fillet with coriander and smoked soy and lemon meringue cream topped with crumble, all enjoyed with a glass of wine, beer or a soft drink. Then, after more free time soaking up the city sights, you’ll rejoin the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express for dinner and to begin your journey to Berlin.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
With a full day on board the train, you’ll have the chance to settle back and enjoy the views as you head back through France and into Germany, sweeping past cragged peaks, vast forests and Alpine meadows dotted with pretty towns and villages. And, of course, you’ll enjoy all the fine dining and white-gloved service you’d expect from the world’s finest rail journey. Then, as you arrive into Berlin, a private transfer will see you to your grand city-centre hotel, the ever-so-elegant Regent. Here, chandeliered halls and marbled pillars lead on to luxurious guest rooms and sumptuous suites while the spa lends itself to indulgent relaxation after exploring the capital’s highlights.
