A gentle cruise on the Orange River offers a different perspective, gliding past tranquil banks and birdlife. Back on board, the train continues through the Karoo, a vast semi‑desert that was once an inland sea. Over millions of years, volcanic matter was ground down and deposited as silt, forming the geological Karoo system that underpins this starkly beautiful landscape. Lunch and afternoon tea are served in the dining cars and lounge, before a formal dinner en route to Kimberley.

"What makes this journey special for me is the sense of discovery that builds day by day. Namibia is full of surprises; the stillness of Sossusvlei at sunrise, the wildlife in Etosha, the quiet beauty of the quiver trees. Then you step onto Rovos Rail and everything slows into a rhythm that feels incredibly restorative. You have time to watch the landscapes change and to enjoy the small moments on board, whether it is a long lunch or a drink in the observation car."
