In more detail

Blachford Lake Lodge is located east of Yellowknife, situated right underneath the aurora oval making for wonderful lights viewing, best witnessed from the outdoor hot tub or private viewing decks. From October to April, this is the focus at the lodge – take advantage with a middle-of-the-night wake up service so you don’t miss a thing. Then there's cross-country skiing, fat biking, snowmobiling and snowshoeing, just some of the activities on offer to make the most of the snow-covered wilderness. The arrival of summer affords the likes of kayaking and canoeing on the lake, trying your hand at fishing or following one of the many forested hiking trails.

Inside, the eco-lodge is all locally-harvested spruce walls, solar panels and First Nations artefacts in its sprawling, wooden-beamed spaces. Enjoy ultra-comfy beds and stunning vistas in your cosy bedroom where you'll share a bathroom, or opt for one of five private log cabins, each with a lake view and fireplace. Take advantage of the communal sauna for a relaxing soak before heading to the intimate lounge and bar for a pre-dinner drink, a perfect prelude to locally produced meals in the log-cabin dining room. The head chef creates a unique spin on traditional French flavours, with fresh seasonal vegetables and a variety of fresh fish and beef.
