This once-in-a-lifetime trip takes in some of Canada’s most striking landscapes on its most iconic journey: the Rocky Mountaineer. You'll start among the emblematic beauty of Lake Louise and Jasper – where you'll embark on a thrilling six-wheel drive on the Columbia Icefield – before boarding the luxury, glass-domed train. It’s a journey that sees you traverse over rushing canyons, climb up mountain passes and speed past waterfalls otherwise unreachable, enjoying all-inclusive Michelin-starred dining and complimentary drinks throughout. A stop among the vivid parklands and forested archipelago of Vancouver Island's Victoria breaks up the trip before you step back on board to loop back towards Calgary, your return route through Banff just as spectacular. It's all knitted together with included transfers and stays in luxury hotels and alpine lodges.

Day 1

UK to Lake Louise

After a chauffeured drive to the airport and included VIP airport lounge access, you’ll board your flight to Calgary. On arrival, enjoy a private transfer straight to the mountain-framed town of Banff and check in to the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. One of the only hotels in the region directly on the lake, this is truly one of the most spectacular settings in the Rockies. Tonight, perhaps indulge in an authentic Swiss fondue in the hotel's alpine-cosy Walliser Stube or sample fine dining and signature cocktails in The Fairview restaurant.

Day 2

Glacial beauty in Jasper

After breakfast, you'll head on an included excursion to Jasper's iconic Icefields Parkway, winding amid impenetrable forests, shimmering lakes and goliath waterfalls before being greeted by the otherworldly white expanse that is the Columbia Icefield. A six-wheel drive takes you in to the centre of its icy stretch before you head to your accommodation for this evening, the alpine delights of Marmot Lodge. With a cosy lounge, stone-clad walls, heated indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, it’s the perfect place to relax after a day of adventuring. Culminate your evening with a drink by the open fire in the Fireside Lounge before sampling some local Alberta beef at the lodge's Embers Steakhouse.

Board the iconic Rocky Mountaineer

This morning, enjoy a private transfer and board the Rocky Mountaineer. As you indulge in a sumptuous breakfast on board, take in the dramatics through glass-domed carriages and panoramic windows, winding through the Rocky Mountain Trench to marvel at Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Rockies. Later, during a Michelin-starred lunch and, throughout, complimentary drinks and snacks, take in the orange and green hues of the Yellowhead Pass, dotted along the way with aqua-blue lakes and snow-draped peaks – your guide on hand throughout for any questions you may have. Today ends in the pretty city of Kamloops where you'll check in to your hotel.

Another Michelin-starred lunch is served as the British Columbia Interior’s semi-arid landscapes and gargantuan forested slopes come into view – perhaps even dotted with moose, elk or bears – before you finally arrive in to Vancouver. Days 6 – 7

The vivid charm of Victoria

After breakfast on day six, transfer to Victoria. Its appeals are evident: in stunning flower-filled parklands, farm-to-table restaurants and colonial Victorian architecture, it's truly charm unabashed. The 55 acres of Butchart Gardens are naturally the highlight, where vibrant floral displays bloom alongside intricate water features and impressive statues. You'll also enjoy an included ferry trip amid the picturesque forests of the Gulf Islands, an ocean-hugging drive and a visit to the waterfront charm of Victoria’s Inner Harbour. In the evening, check in to your hotel, the Chateau Victoria, a stylish offering with contemporary suites – some even featuring wet bars – in-room spa treatments, a Jacuzzi and a rooftop grill for tapas and martinis alongside nightly live music. Day seven sees you enjoy a further day of exploration; we recommend booking a whale watching tour or traditional tea at The Fairmont Empress, a grand hotel in the centre of Victoria's harbour-side charm. Then, head back to Vancouver by coach and then a ferry before checking back in to the Hampton Inn & Suites.

Return to the Rockies

Today it’s time to step back on board the Rocky Mountaineer train as you begin your loop back towards Banff. Traverse the coast before speeding past the dense greenery of the Fraser Valley and snow-capped peaks of the Coast and Cascade mountain ranges and indulging in another gourmet lunch. Today's highlight is surely the Hell’s Gate, where soaring rock walls frame an abrupt narrowing of the Fraser River in an almighty roar. Skirt the Thompson River past Kamloops Lake before disembarking and checking in to your city hotel.

Banff's postcard-perfect scenery

Board the train for a final breakfast today as you traverse towards the mighty Canadian Rockies and back into Alberta. Speeding among ranchlands, lakes, over high mountain passes and through the tunnels that form an iconic part of the Rockies’ history, today is a true trip highlight. Be reminded of a time gone by as you head through the famous Spiral Tunnels, historic for their part in the area's rail heritage, and Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway took place. Take in the spectacular Kicking Horse Canyon and glacial lakes as you approach the Rockies' dramatic peaks and winding rivers, then step off for the last time and check in to your hotel, a cosy chateau-style lodge with a full-service spa and fabulous steakhouse restaurant.
