Day 1

Arrive at Brändön Lodge

After touching down in Luleå, a private driver will bring you through snow-draped forests to Brändön Lodge, a boutique retreat perched above the frozen Bothnian Sea. Here, you’ll be fitted with a full winter-clothing kit before settling into your cosy timber cabin – complete with heated floors, log-burning stove and sweeping views across the archipelago. As dusk settles, enjoy your first three-course dinner in the lodge’s atmospheric restaurant, where seasonal menus showcase local fish, slow-cooked game and wild berries. Afterwards, take an evening stroll along the shoreline; with luck, the Northern Lights may make their first appearance.

Day 2

Snowshoeing & Nordic winter skills

Wake to a hearty Scandinavian breakfast before your first foray into the surrounding wilderness. After changing into warm expedition gear, join your expert guide for a three-hour snowshoe adventure into the silent forests surrounding the lodge. Along the way, you’ll learn essential Nordic winter skills – from building a fire in deep snow to brewing coffee over open flames – while your guide shares stories of life in the Arctic. Lunch is served the traditional way, inside a Sami lavvu tent, where you’ll warm up beside the fire on soft reindeer hides. Later, return to the lodge for a private sauna and hot-tub session, the warm waters contrasting beautifully with the crisp Arctic air.

Day 3

Husky sledding, family adventures & Northern Lights sled tour

This morning brings one of Lapland’s most iconic experiences – husky sledding. After meeting the enthusiastic team of around 60 lovable huskies, you will learn to drive your own sled, mushing through forest trails and across frozen lakes. Stops along the way provide a chance for hot drinks and insights into the life of a local dog musher. Return to the lodge for lunch and a leisurely afternoon. Younger family members will love the kick-sleds and toboggans, while adults might opt to hire fat bikes or cross-country skis – these are available throughout your stay. This evening, enjoy another delicious three-course dinner before heading out on a guided Northern Lights sled tour. Wrapped in blankets on a reindeer-pelt-lined sled, you’ll be towed across the frozen sea as your guide explains the science and folklore of the aurora. A fire-lit stop allows time for hot chocolate as you wait for the sky to glow.

Day 4

Snowmobile safari across frozen seas & forests

After breakfast, meet your guide for a two-hour snowmobile safari – a thrilling yet serene way to experience life the Arctic way. Riding modern, easy-to-handle machines, you’ll follow established trails through forests and out onto the frozen Bothnian archipelago. Along the way, stops are made to take in the scenery and hear stories of local culture and winter traditions. A steaming cup of coffee enjoyed in the snow completes the experience. Back at the lodge, lunch is served, leaving your afternoon free. Perhaps you'll try ice fishing on the frozen sea or simply relax by your cabin’s fire before your final three-course dinner.

About the itinerary

"This itinerary was designed for families who want an immersive yet comfortable introduction to Arctic life. Brändön Lodge is one of my favourite places in Swedish Lapland – warm, intimate and perfectly placed for adventure. The activities here are wonderfully authentic, from learning wilderness skills beside a crackling fire to meeting the huskies and exploring the frozen archipelago by snowmobile. It’s the ideal blend of comfort, culture and fun, wrapped up in a setting where the Northern Lights often dance right overhead."
