The glamorous blue-and-gold train is most associated with its journeys to the romantic cities of Istanbul, Venice and Paris, each of which are embodied within the design of three new types of suite. The Istanbul suite offers hand-carved timber, lying alongside embossed leather furnishings and exotic motifs reminiscent of the country's opulence, while silver and blue hues and silk materials set the scene alongside Venetian glass ornaments in the Venice suite. And, in keeping with Paris’ elegance, the final option is all chic furnishings and fanned lamps, perfectly enjoyed with in-suite private dining and free-flowing champagne which is offered for all guests in each type of Grand Suite.
There's a sense of heritage in mosaic-embossed sinks and art-deco design throughout, but unlike the remainder of the train's tiered beds, the new Grand Suites are vast. Guests will enjoy a plush double bed, large writing desk, opulent loungers and chairs and of course the aforementioned en-suite, where a complimentary designer bathrobe awaits. There’s even the option to reserve the entire carriage of suites for ultimate privacy. Vice-president of the design firm and the brainchild of the suites' design, Rachel Johnson, said of the new creations: “It was extremely important when developing the design concept that we embraced the unique story and history of the brand. To capture the epitome of classic luxury travel that the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express exudes, we focused on moments within each city, inspiring visual cues and the overall Belmond guest experience. It was an exciting challenge to use this inspiration to recreate the essence of Art-Deco glamour in an elegant and timeless design.”
