In more detail

Located next to the historic Shakespeare Cliff Reserve, this beautiful beach house overlooks Lonely Bay – an area known for its natural beauty and pristine beaches – and is a short walk from Cooks Beach and the Whitianga Ferry Landing from which a two minute ferry crossing transports you to all the shops and restaurants of Whitianga.

Set in manicured gardens with feature lighting, the lodge is home to just four, immaculate, light-filled one- or two-bedroomed suites. With crisp, high thread-count linens and quality furnishings including a king sized bed, each stylishly decorated suite is individual in character with expansive outdoor terraces affording magnificent views over either the estuary or native bush. The two-bedroomed Estuary Terrace suite is particularly impressive, with extensive outdoor entertaining space which includes a covered dining area with outdoor fireplace. 970 Lonely Bay offers its guests plenty of space to relax in, including a well-stocked library, a snug with fireplace and Bang & Olufsen surround sound, plus a solarium and dining room.

On that note, the food here is superb and can be tailored according to individual tastes. Continental breakfasts are included in your stay and each suite has an extensive mini-bar with drinks, fresh fruit and snacks. Other meals are by arrangement – there’s everything from picnic hampers to vintage afternoon teas and fine dinners complimented by excellent wines from the local wineries. Outside of the property, the Coromandel Peninsula is a beach-lovers paradise, with excellent diving and snorkel sites within easy reach and don’t forget to visit Hot Water Beach, where you can dig your own spa pool.
