Few countries do lodges like Australia, yet fewer still combine such ultra-luxury with such compelling destinations. On this comprehensive getaway, you’ll stay in boutique tents that overlook iconic Uluru, a deluxe treehouse in a wildlife-filled rainforest and an architect’s utopia on the much-hopped Kangaroo Island. However, it’s perhaps the chance to stay on a private island in the Great Barrier Reef that’s the most exciting, enjoying dives with turtles and picnics on exclusive beaches. And, you’ll travel in style with flight hops, private transfers, gourmet dining and excursions that range from naturalist-led walks to jungle kayaking.
We are sad to advise that Southern Ocean Lodge was destroyed by bushfires in January 2020 and is closed until further notice. Please speak to our specialists who'll be able to advise alternative options.
Begin your trip with airport lounge access before your flight downunder.
On arrival, a charter plane will see you on to Kangaroo Island, a place where rolling hills are dotted with vineyards and beaches are animated by those hopping icons. Your base, after a private transfer, is an ultra-luxury suite cantilevered above a rugged clifftop where you’ll settle in to enjoy the included selection of guided excursions.
There’s everything from photographers’ cliff walks and searches for sleepy koalas to seal colony visits with a naturalist and the chance to sip fine Australian vintages as you watch grazing wallabies. You’ll return each day to complimentary pre-dinner drinks and canapés along with all-inclusive, wine-paired gastronomy that showcases the island’s artisanal produce.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
Today, you’ll fly deep into the endless Outback to stay in a luxury tented pavilion with unparalleled, floor-to-ceiling views of an Australian icon – Uluru. The complimentary in-suite bar doesn’t hurt either. It’s your launchpad for a host of included excursions; choose from the likes of sunset drinks and canapés with views over Uluru, dune-top dining with a talk from Longitude’s resident astronomer and guided walks through the Aboriginal myths of Kata Tjuta’s gorges and stunning rock formations.
Your all-inclusive dining is equally considered, featuring menus that change daily to show off the best in contemporary Australian cuisine.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
A flight north, again bookended by private transfers, will see you swap desert for the UNESCO-listed Daintree Rainforest. Here, you’ll stay among its lush canopy in a luxury, riverfront treehouse; all marble and polished timber, they’re host to spa bathtubs and private verandahs that even feature hammocks. You’ll also be perfectly poised to explore.
Your complimentary activities range from daily yoga to mountain biking, guided jungle walks and the chance to kayak and snorkel through the rainforest’s river network. Eucalypt forests host chirping parrots and alien lizards stalk secluded mangroves.
Breakfast included
Following a last private transfer, your next flight hop will see you to Lizard Island, a private getaway on the Great Barrier Reef. Settle in to an all-inclusive life of gourmet, tropical cuisine and fine drinks, best taken at sunset on one of the 24 private beaches. The resort’s sail staff will drop you off and pick you up at request. You’ll also want to get out and explore on island hikes, or with the use of the complimentary paddleboards, glass-bottom kayaks and snorkelling equipment.
You’ll even have the use of your very own motorised dinghy. To get closer, you might also want to book on to dives, snorkel charters, champagne cruises and fishing trips.

"Australia is home to a number of incredible natural icons, and what better way to experience them than in sumptuous luxury? I've picked out some stunning boutique properties, including a luxurious treehouse in the rainforest, tents overlooking Uluru and even your very own private island in the Great Barrier Reef. Travelling between the landmarks needn't be boring either – on this sample itinerary I've included flight hops and private transfers throughout. It'll feel like this country is truly your own to explore."
