Motswari Private Game Reserve is set deep inside the untamed wilderness of Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which shares an unfenced border with Kruger National Park. This area is home to over 40 mammals, including all of the Big Five, and is considered one of the finest places to observe wildlife in the whole of Africa. Motswari is best accessed from Hoedspruit Airport, which lies around an hour’s drive away.
Motswari comprises just 15 ensuite bungalows, each decorated in traditional South African style using natural materials and neutral tones to create an ambience of classic elegance. Each bungalow comes with a private deck, a king-size bed with luxurious Egyptian cotton linen, air conditioning, and complimentary tea and coffee. Eight of the bungalows face towards the river, while the rest are discreetly nestled among the bush.
The main lodge also features a spacious lounge and cosy bar area alongside an art gallery, a library and a boma with an open-air firepit – the perfect spot to relax in the evenings beneath the star-studded sky.
For an even more exclusive and secluded experience, enjoy an overnight stay at the Giraffe’s Nest Hide – a luxury, open-air treehouse tucked away in the bush, with views over the Xanatsi Dam. There’s also Geiger’s Camp, a haven of relaxation and tranquility offering four luxury en-suite bedrooms, exclusive private dining, an oval-shaped infinity pool and a warm, homely atmosphere.
Meals at Motswari are a celebration of South African cuisine and culture, and are served either on the verandah, in the open-air boma area, or out in the bush for a truly immersive dining experience. Breakfasts consist of continental buffet options as well as a selection of cooked dishes, while delicious dinners are accompanied by award-winning Southern African wines.
When you’re not out on game drives, you may wish to join one of the rangers on a guided bush walk, or simply unwind by the outdoor pool or in the inviting communal lounge area.
