Naples & Pompeii

On arrival in Naples, a private transfer will bring you to your grand and elegant hotel, beautifully positioned on a hillside in the upscale Chiaia neighborhood with expansive views over the city and the Bay of Naples beyond. In the evening, why not start your vacation in style with an exquisite, two Michelin-starred dinner at George Restaurant, perhaps followed by an expertly-mixed cocktail or two at the rooftop terrace bar?

The following day, you’ll take a step back in time as your private driver-guide brings you to Pompeii for a fascinating insight into the region’s ancient Roman heritage. As you wander among the stone-paved streets that were once layered in ash and pumice from nearby Mount Vesuvius, you’ll stop by landmarks including the Forum, the Amphitheatre and the Stabian Baths, as well as numerous bakeries, restaurants, houses and villas richly decorated with frescoes, statues and mosaics.

Day 4

Day trip to Capri

This morning, make your way to the harbour to catch the hydrofoil Capri, once a favorite summer retreat for Roman emperors and a haven for countless artists, writers and intellectuals through the centuries. It remains one of Italy’s most cherished islands today, with its majestic limestone cliffs and sea stacks, hidden grottos and coves lapped by azure waters, and whitewashed, bougainvillea-draped villas. You’ll have the day to explore however you see fit; amble along the postcard-perfect lanes of Capri Town, take a trip to the famous Blue Grotto, go in search of ancient Roman sculptures and ruins, or take the Monte Solaro Chair Elevator up to the highest point on the island, where you’ll be treated to fabulous panoramic views. Be sure to set aside some time along the way to sample the island’s culinary delights, whether it’s deliciously fresh local seafood or homemade ravioli capresi that takes your fancy. Later on, the hydrofoil will bring you back to Sorrento for the evening.

You have the whole day free to explore Sorrento at leisure. Your hotel is just a short stroll away from the 14th-century Church and Cloisters of St. Francis, Sorrento Cathedral, and the bustling main square, Piazza Tasso. It’s easy to spend a good few hours strolling among the cobbled streets, stopping every so often at sidewalk-side cafes and admiring the wealth of historic architecture on display. Outside of the town, there are plenty of scenic walking trails to explore, some hugging the coast and others winding inland between fragrant lemon and olive groves. You might also be tempted to book a guided culinary-themed tour to taste local products such as limoncello and mozzarella.

Later, arrive in Amalfi, where your home for the next few nights is the Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel, an extraordinary former 13th-century Capuchin monastery dramatically perched on the cliffs above the town.
