This amazing winter holiday to Swedish Lapland makes for an exceptional adventure. Whether you're snuggling up in front of a roaring fire, watching the Northern Lights from an outdoor hot tub or racing across frozen lakes and through boreal forests on snowmobiles, dog-sleds and sleighs, it's the ultimate introduction to life north of the Arctic Circle. To make it that bit more special, we’ve included stays at two of Sweden’s most exceptional, iconic properties – Treehotel and ICEHOTEL – for a truly memorable winter adventure.

Can’t travel over winter but still want to experience the ICEHOTEL? Don’t worry, the innovative ICEHOTEL 365 is a permanent structure cooled by solar power that means that you can now stay at the world’s coolest hotel all year round; combine strolling through the forest and fishing on the rivers close to the Treehotel with river rafting or paddle boarding on the Torne River under the Midnight Sun instead, for a matchless Swedish summer experience.

Day 1

Treehotel

Fly into Lulea. From here we will take you to the incredible Treehotel in Harads. Choose a mirrored cube, a UFO room or the all-new Biosphere, set high amid the pine trees with its bird nest facade – Scandinavian flourishes and exceptional location.

Settle into your eyrie and soak up the silence. Emerge for dinner at Britta’s Guesthouse, where haute hunter-gatherer dishes and local delicacies are served up lovingly. Warm yourself with a shot of birch-flavoured schnapps and make the short walk back into the forest to climb the hanging walkway or suspended ladder to your cool branch-hung den.

Day 2

Treehotel

Awaking in the middle of the snowy wilderness, prepare to immerse yourself in the countryside by exploring the taiga by dog sled, horse and sleigh, snowshoe or skijoring. Meet the local Sami in their village and discover their traditional way of life. Spend time skiing at nearby Storklinten. Then ease back in the tree sauna and enjoy a massage (Swedish, naturally) before plunging into an open-air hot tub, surrounded by the forest.

For a romantic evening, ask us about arranging dinner in your treehouse or about setting up a picnic feast in the snow, lit by torches and candles, where you’ll sit on reindeer skin and eat in a heated tipi while you wait for the Northern Lights to possibly emerge.

Day 3

ICEHOTEL

Swap your grown-up treehouse for a luxury igloo as you travel by scenic train from Lulea to Kiruna and the iconic ICEHOTEL. Tour the property to see the ice art and glittering chandeliers (carved from ice), the atmospheric ice bar and the gorgeous ice suites, each sculpted from ice and individually styled. Spoil yourself by upgrading your stay from a stylish ice room to one of these gorgeous glacial igloos.

Admire the beautifully crafted grottoes, try your hand at ice sculpting and reindeer-sledding, enjoy a winter safari or search for the Northern Lights on horseback before cosying down in a thermal sleeping bag on top of warm reindeer hides strewn over your bed of ice, for the soundest of sleeps.

Day 4

ICEHOTEL

Rouse yourself from within your expedition-style sleeping bag and sip a warm glass of lingonberry juice before taking a morning sauna to thaw out any enduring chilliness. Try your hand at winter activities such as snowmobiling or ice driving, learn to mush with a dog-sled team or meet the local reindeer.

Perhaps you’ll round off your adventure with a traditional Lappish dinner and a final sortie into the Arctic countryside in search of the aurora. Rather than an igloo, your final night will be in a warm, cosy Kaamos room, where you’ll stay particularly toasty.
